Toy Train History: In Christies Toy Trains by Hugo Marsh he describes the early Marklin golden age paint process: Each tin plate component was hand formed and soldered together by skilled tinsmiths, Then spray – primed and hand – painted by a succession of painters, with a session in the oven between each coat. The best painters, usually women, undertook the last and most complicated phases of detailed paint work and lining. Finally, The pieces were coated with a natural shellac lacquer and baked again. These processes combine to give the thick, lustrous finish, surpassed only by Bing at it’s peak. Item Description: Marklin Prewar Electric Toy Model Train Germany Gauge O Scale Locomotive Vintage. Prewar O Gauge Marklin Blue-Green Color 0-4-0 Locomotive and tender measuring 12 in total length. This odd color steam O gauge engine is model R66/12910 20 volt. The tender is 919-0. The Loco and Tender are all original. The two Loco front wheels are badly warped and fatigued. The rear loco wheels are loose but the castings appear good. Marx O Scale #5895W Canadian Pacific Passenger Set. The set is in excellent condition overall which has been run previously. All of the cars are included from the original set and the set also includes the track, transformer and original instructions. The locomotive included is excellent and very clean! The passenger cars are in very good condition with the classic Canadian Pacific color scheme and detail. There is some slight discoloration on some of the passenger cars, but they are still in very good condition. Included in the set are the following with colors and features. Locomotive: 3000, CP, 2-4-2, black, gray and maroon. Tender: (2451), CP, black, maroon and yellow. Passenger: 246, Montreal, maroon and gold. Passenger: 247, Toronto, maroon and gold. Passenger: 248, Quebec, maroon and gold. Passenger: 250, Winnipeg, maroon and gold. Passenger: 252, Calgary, maroon and gold. Cars are six-inch eight-wheel with tab and slot couplers. 10.5 diecast 2-6-2 loco, made 1939 to 41 is black version with chrome-nickel trim. Original finish has light edge wear, mainly 1 sideboard, otherwise is clean, mostly original. I suspect boiler front is a replacement, as it looks great, but is too perfect, including all 4 green jewels. All Items, including N. Deluxe diecast scale-detailed loco is 12 long, second only to the 763E Hudsons of the era. Loco is original/complete, but 2 side-marker jewels are missing from cast markers. One corner of cab roof has a slight bend and paint chip, balance of loco has only light wear/dirt, looks VG+. Rods have some very light corrosion spots. Loco has Baldwin Disc drive wheels and features headlight and red firebox light. Other scale features include turned handrail stanchions, bell trim, applied piping. It ran smooth when bench tested reverse unit was a bit sticky, may need cleaning, lights worked. All Items, including N. (new-old-stock), are graded and represented as vintage collectibles. 1930s Prewar Lionel O Scale Copper Adorned Beauty Steam Engine / Locomotive #262E W/ FLAGS. The little white flags are metal and are original, and look awesome if you ask me. This Engine was tested and does run fairly good, (has not been “run” in about 25 years). In my opinion it needs a typical greasing, cleaning and general maintenance and this engine should run very nice. With a little TLC maintenance this will be a pride and joy runner. This locomotive does NOT run, the cab/roof needs to be re-attached. This will need attention. Older kit bash B&O 4-4-0 steam locomotive, #456, seemingly made of brass and hand painted. Check them out while supplies last! No tender included in this sale. Additional details, the locomotive does not run, however, the wheels are not locked up. There is a front coupler present and it is original. This is an old Walthers coupler and is different than the typical O scale couplers of today. This may or may not affect the way this car couples with your modern stock. Just a reminder that the loco does not run and the cab/roof needs to be re-attached.
