Kato 2016-D N Gauge Finished Model D51 498 Orient Express’88. Accessories: Replacement knuckle couplers. D51 498 was manufactured in 1940 and operated throughout Honshu. It was decommissioned in 1972 and preserved in front of Gokan Station on the Joetsu Line. Sixteen years later, in November 1988, it was restored to working order by JR East, resuming service as it did in its heyday. Its first train towed after its restoration was the then-famous “Orient Express’88, ” which was visiting Japan at the time. It stood in front of the main locomotive, EF58 61, for the final domestic train from Ueno Station to Omiya Station, operating in a double-headed configuration. Since then, it has mainly been used to pull event trains such as the “SL Minakami” on the Joetsu Line, and continues to operate as one of JR East’s flagship locomotives. This product is a re-release. This time, the leading and trailing truck wheels will be changed to spoked wheels with gaps between the spokes, the rods will be given a glossy chrome finish, and the crossheads and combination links will be changed to a more realistic color. Accordingly, the product number, price, and JAN code will change. Other specifications remain unchanged from the previous product.
