While the A1 was a fantastic locomotive that served its purpose as intended, it became clear reasonably quickly that some modifications could be made that would greatly improve its performance. These modifications however were too significant to avoid reclassifying the locomotives and as such the A1 Felstead 2743 was the first to be withdrawn from service only a handful of years after it was introduced, emerging from its shed in August 1928 as the first A3’Super Pacific. The newly designated A3 locomotives had an improved boiler, larger cylinders and a conversion from right to left hand drive. 27 of the class were built as A3 locomotives from the get go, with all of the in service A1 examples being converted before 1950, the last such example to undergo this transformation was the then BR numbered 60068 Sir Visto. 2595 Trigo would enter LNER service in 1930, being one of the 27 A3 locomotives to never turn a wheel as an A1. The locomotive would go through the same short lived numbering pattern as its classmates carrying the number 84 for a short time before adopting its longer term BR number of 60084 on nationalisation. HIGHLY DETAILED OO9 SCALE MODEL KIT. Ffestiniog Railway Carriages 11 and 12 – Double Pack. This is a detailed scale model kit for adult collectors. Not for children under 14 years old. This model kit is of carriages 11 and 12, as currently running on the Ffestiniog Railway. These were heavily rebuilt by the preservation movement from the original Vans 4 and 5. Van 4 had the balcony removed and a new observation compartment built at one end, and is now carriage 11. Van 5 was given new frames and is now 5ft longer, with an extra compartment. It is currently an accessible coach with tip-up seating in one bay. These carriages are usually coupled together in train formations, as they also have a gangway connection at the brake ends. The kit includes three main components – the body side assembly, internal detail and frame, and roof. There is also a sprue of detailing connections. Resin bogies, plastic wheels, NEM OO9 couplings and clear perspex are included with the model. You will need modelling tools (such as a craft knife, cutting board, files and micro-drills) adhesive and paints to assemble the kit. This is a highly detailed scale kit built using our in house machines, with High Definition resin and build layers just 50 microns (0.05mm) thick. Whilst there is’stepping’ visible on the parts up close, this is not discernible once the kit is painted and/or from usual viewing distances. The parts have their main supports removed, though detailing and structural supports will remain to protect the parts in transit, and require removing prior to assembly. Some polishing and filing of the parts is required to ensure they fit together without a seam. The carriage includes representation of the interior, including the first class observation compartment in Carriage 11. Brake pipes and electrical connectors are also present at the correct ends and sides of the vehicles, and the gangway ends are also represented. Handles and grab rails are fully detailed, and not moulded to the body. The pack contains both coaches, and the required bogies. Fourdees Limited is not liable for any breakages of parts during assembly of the kit. If parts arrive damaged, please provide photographic evidence and we shall replace the damaged component. 117mm Carriage 12: 137mm (both over coupling hoops).
