HIGHLY DETAILED OO9 SCALE MODEL KIT. Ffestiniog Railway Carriages 11 and 12 (1980’s) – Double Pack. This is a detailed scale model kit for adult collectors. Not for children under 14 years old. This model kit is of carriages 11 and 12, as running on the Ffestiniog Railway in the 1980’s. These were heavily rebuilt by the preservation movement from the original Vans 4 and 5. Van 4 had the balcony removed and a new observation compartment built at one end, and is now carriage 11. During the 80’s it had ten seats in the observation compartment and also electrical connections at both ends of the vehicle. Van 5 was given new frames and is 5ft longer. During the 80’s the guard’s compartment acted as a kitchen and this was a buffet car named Samuel Holland. It also had three large panoramic windows in the saloon, and one of the guards doors was blocked off for the kitchen workstation. These carriages are usually coupled together in train formations, as they also have a gangway connection at the brake ends. The kit includes three main components – the body side assembly, internal detail and frame, and roof. There is also a sprue of detailing connections. PECO GR-104 bogies and clear perspex are included with the model. You will need modelling tools (such as a craft knife, cutting board, files and micro-drills) adhesive and paints to assemble the kit. This is a highly detailed scale kit built using our in house machines, with High Definition resin and build layers just 50 microns (0.05mm) thick. Whilst there is’stepping’ visible on the parts up close, this is not discernible once the kit is painted and/or from usual viewing distances. The parts have their main supports removed, though detailing and structural supports will remain to protect the parts in transit, and require removing prior to assembly. Some polishing and filing of the parts is required to ensure they fit together without a seam. The carriage includes representation of the interior, including the first class observation compartment in Carriage 11. Brake pipes and electrical connectors are also present at the correct ends and sides of the vehicles, and the gangway ends are also represented. Handles and grab rails are fully detailed, and not moulded to the body. The pack contains both coaches, and the required bogies. This model kit is of carriages 21 and 22, as running on the Ffestiniog Railway prior to preservation. Both carriages were build by the Ashbury Carriage and Iron Company to improve accommodation for quarry workers and also double up as tourist stock. In this original form they included safety rails across the door drop-windows (to prevent passengers sticking heads out of the window in the tight lineside clearances). The frame also includes more bolt detail than the modern day replica of carriage 21. The original carriage 21 did not survive into preservation, whilst carriage 22 has been rebuilt numerous times. It is still operating on the Ffestiniog Railway, but in a completely new form with larger’Barn’ style profile. The kit includes three main components – the body side assembly, internal detail and frame, and roof. There are option Oil Lamp Lids/Vents to fit if modelling the carriages pre-1930. Both carriages also requires the hooped door handles to bit fitted separately. Finally, there is also a raft of detailing brake connections specific to these vehicle1.
