This 2-6-2T locomotive was built in 1906 to 2′ gauge, to work what became the Welsh Highland Railway. In 1924 the locomotive was heavily modified in order for it to be able to operate on the Ffestiniog Railway. Russell continued to operate on the Welsh Highland Railway up until its closure in 1937. In 1965, it was donated to the Welsh HIghland Railway preservation group for restoration, first steaming again in 1987. The model comes with a static chassis for display, and can be motorised with a Graham Farish Class 08 Shunter Chassis (outside framed version – either non-DCC or DCC-ready). The model includes all parts required to assemble working Walschaerts Valve Gear, including accurate replacement flycranks. You will need modelling tools (such as a craft knife, cutting board, files and micro-drills) adhesive, paints and ballast material (such as Liquid Gravity) to assemble the kit. Two versions of the model are available. C1906 – As built (and present day restored) condition, including tall cab and air brakes. C1935 – As cut-down to work the Ffestiniog Railway, with vacuum brakes.
