Roundhouse Billy SM32 16mm Scale Live Steam Loco with 2.4Ghz Deltang RC. Here is my Roundhouse Billy, its paperwork dates from from late 2003. I bought it last year from a chap who had ambitions of a garden railway that didn’t happen. Consequently after the first couple of “test steamings” it had been left unused for nearly fifteen years. The loco had been stored with the radio control batteries left in so the battery holder was badly corroded. I replaced the roof fitted batteries with an under cab floor rechargeable set and changed the on off switch to one with a charging connection. At the same time the original 40Mhz RC was removed and a state of the art 2.4Ghz Deltang receiver fitted. This was bound to my Deltang transmitter. This transmitter has the “selecta” feature that allows it to bind with up to twelve locos and with the aid of a rotary switch instantly switch the controller to any one of them; meanwhile unselected locos “cruise” at their last control setting until they are reselected. The receiver is the “extended aerial” version so although the receiver is mounted below the cab floor the aerial is brought up vertically and tucked in behind the gas tank in the cab, secured with a glue dot. It can be seen in the cab photograph together with the charging connector which just pokes out of the starboard cab door. A new set of O rings have been fitted replacing the old ones crushed by fifteen years of slumber. Likewise both the pressure gauge and the safety valve have had to be been replaced. The servo linkage has been adjusted, for some reason one of the servos had come loose in storage??? This loco has the later type cylinders introduced into the “Classic” locos starting 2002 onward. These have an O ring seal on cylinder cover instead of the earlier paper version. On these cylinders there is no step between the valve chest and the cylinder body although the photograph on the Owner’s Handbook shows the earlier version. The loco also has clip on cylinder covers fitted. Unusually for a second hand loco it has never had name or numberplates fitted so there are no unsightly glue blemishes to the bodywork. I never got round to fitting the nameplate that I had ordered for it. There is some scuffing to the boiler paintwork around the cab, otherwise the loco looks very new. Please study the pictures to see what I mean (they do form part of the description). The original paperwork is included but an overturned oil can in the bottom of the box has stained them (see pictures). Also present is the original spares kit including the track gauge. It is dual gauge and can be run on both 32mm and 45mm track. Any questions, please ask. Alternatively the loco can be collected from Sheffield and if the weather is clement can be test run on my track.
