JGR Class 190 Side Tank Steam Locomotive “Early Production” w/Brake Van. Be sure to message us if this item is available before purchasing! The JGR Class 190 steam locomotives were built in 1871 by Dübs & Co. Glasgow Locomotive Works in the United Kingdom, with two units constructed (serial numbers: 436, 437). Both locomotives arrived in Japan in 1872 and were initially named “8” and 9. They primarily operated between the Keihin area but underwent several renamings before being reclassified as Class 190 (#190, #191) in 1909. In 1911, they were transferred to the Bisai Railway and renamed again, continuing their service until their retirement in 1927. Unfortunately, neither of the locomotives was preserved, and both were dismantled. The Class 190 locomotives appear to resemble tender steam locomotives at first glance; however, the coupled vehicle at the rear was actually a brake van. The Class 190 locomotives were equipped with a type of counter-pressure brake but lacked a hand brake. Instead, the hand brake was installed exclusively on the aforementioned brake van. As a result, when operating independently, it was necessary to couple the brake van. When operating in a back-to-back configuration, the counter-pressure brake of one of the locomotives had to be used. For 9 mm Gauge Tracks. Set of 2 Cars (Steam Locomotive & Brake Van). LGB G-Scale 2-4-0 American steam loco & tender in black A. Running number 1217, model number 20232. This has seen very little use and is consequently in mint condition (note lack of any wear to pick-up shoes or wheels). It’s been in store for a while but ran faultlessly when I tested it prior to sale. It has working cab and directional lights. The model is designed to accept a decoder (‘DCC ready’), but I’ve never got around to it and have been running it in DC (analogue) mode. Extra features that become operational when decoder and speaker are fitted (LGB call their own system with decoder fitted’Multi-Train System’) are stated in the handbook to include bell, whistle and engine sounds, plus the ability for mouse control. A 4-position switch in the cab (seen in photo 5) controls on/off, smoke (never tested) and sound. Included are clip-on track sensors that, with the decoder fitted, activate the bell or whistle automatically when the loco passes over. Again, please note that a decoder is required. The box and its internal packaging are all excellent and it comes with full instructions and the track sensors.
