JGR Class 190 Side Tank Steam Locomotive “Early Production” w/Brake Van. Be sure to message us if this item is available before purchasing! The JGR Class 190 steam locomotives were built in 1871 by Dübs & Co. Glasgow Locomotive Works in the United Kingdom, with two units constructed (serial numbers: 436, 437). Both locomotives arrived in Japan in 1872 and were initially named “8” and 9. They primarily operated between the Keihin area but underwent several renamings before being reclassified as Class 190 (#190, #191) in 1909. In 1911, they were transferred to the Bisai Railway and renamed again, continuing their service until their retirement in 1927. Unfortunately, neither of the locomotives was preserved, and both were dismantled. The Class 190 locomotives appear to resemble tender steam locomotives at first glance; however, the coupled vehicle at the rear was actually a brake van. The Class 190 locomotives were equipped with a type of counter-pressure brake but lacked a hand brake. Instead, the hand brake was installed exclusively on the aforementioned brake van. As a result, when operating independently, it was necessary to couple the brake van. The JGR Class 3255 (originally the Nambu Railway Class 2) is a 2-6-2T Prairie-type side tank steam locomotive operated by the Japanese Government Railways from 1926 to 1948. The Class 3255 was an early steam locomotive operated in Japan. The type was manufactured initially for the Jinchu Railway, with two locomotives manufactured by Kisha Seizo and delivered in 1926; these were numbered 3 and 4. What would later be christened the Class 3255 was a single locomotive built for the Nambu Railway the same year. This locomotive was numbered 2. After the Nambu Railway was acquired by the JGR in 1943, the sole locomotive was classified the Class 3255 and renumbered as such. After the railroad was acquired by the JGR the locomotive saw little use and was scrapped in 1948. The two Jinchu Railway locomotives saw a better fate; they were renumbered 7 and 8 after the railroad was acquired by Sagami Railway, then were resold to the Ena Railway and served until the 1960s. One of these locomotives, Jinchu Railway Class 3, survives today. It is located at the Sagami Railway’s Kashiwadai Depot where it is on static display. For 9 mm Gauge Tracks. The item photos show the item painted after assembly. The JNR Class B20 is a 0-4-0T Switcher-type side tank saturated steam locomotive operated by the Japanese National Railways. It was a small tank steam locomotive primarily intended for switching operations. The B20 was designed under the Important Industrial Control Law as a small steam locomotive intended for industrial use. The locomotives were manufactured during World War II, although their actual conditions of operation are not known. A total of 15 locomotives (5 by JNR’s Koriyama Works and 10 by Tateyama Heavy Industries) were manufactured. Many were retired early as these were produced under duress, and as such workmanship and build quality of the locomotives was poor. Due to the shape of their tanks, they have been referred to as the Bean Tank by casual railfans. Two locomotives survive today: class leader B20 1, located at the abandoned Asahi Station in Hokkaido, and B20 10 at the Umekoji Steam Locomotive Museum in Kyoto Railway Museum.
