The BB II series were developed specifically for the Bavarian branch lines with narrow curve radii. They were designed as wet steam locomotives of the Mallet type. They were delivered in 2 lots, the first lot between 1899 and 1903 included 29 locomotives, the second only 2 units. The locomotives were manufactured by the Maffei company. All vehicles were taken over by the Deutsche Reichsbahn in 1925 and discontinued as 98.7.
