The Western Maryland, primarily a coal-hauling railroad during its heyday, derived 50% of its revenue from the transportation of bituminous coal. In fact, the 21 mile route was filled with 1.75 percent grades and sharp 8 degree curves. Known as the 1200 Series, a total of 12 locomotives were built, each sporting a 22,000 gallon tender that held 30 tons of coal. According to Eddystone, one M-2 could haul an 11,000 ton train up the 1.75% grades though most runs were complemented with other locomotives, including 4-8-4 Northerns and 2-10-0 Decapods. On offer is a Sunset Models 2 rail O Scale 2-10-0. Please note the following.. In general everything is square and tight. The air cylinder casting has come adrift, included. At some point someone has re attached it as there is evidence of an adhesive at the mounting point. It really needs to be resoldered in place.. A run on my test bench shows the locomotive runs smooth. Current draw around 0.5A, which dropped with a few minutes of running. The cab fall plate has broken away from the model. One of the cab window sunshades has broken away from the cab, both parts present and included. The front left running board is loose, but attached. The steam turret is loose, but remains attached. The 2 steps at the pilot are bent from transit damage (likely). These could be bent straight, but with extreme care. I have no idea of date of production for this piece maybe the mid 1980’s at best?
