The famous 1938 streamliner New York Central J3a Dreyfuss Hudson, styled by Henry Dreyfuss, is the first offering in the Lionel Smithsonian Collection of model trains. The Lionel Smithsonian Collection J3a Dreyfuss Hudson is a Limited Edition recreation of the original in uncompromising and full operating detail. Only 500 of these scale locomotives and tenders will be built. 2-8-0 Steam Engine and Tender. Great looking brass set. This set was tested and it worked really nice in both directions. I question if this set was factory painted and I’m thinking it was done later. It presents well, but it is not a high end factory job. The weight in the cab was added at a later point. The set does not have working lights. Some extra small screws and instructions are in the box. The box has some shelf wear, tape residue and a nice factory tag. Please review all the pictures. 4-8-4 Steam Engine and Tender. This engine appears new to me, but I want to point out that the deck between the engine and tender is loose and in the box. I pictured the part and you will notice one side has a bent pin. On the train both rings (that would hold this part) are complete without issue. This is a very large set, measuring approximately 28 inches long. I tested this unit in conventional mode and with the remote and it sounded and worked great. Very nice looking set.
