The JGR Class 8100 (originally the JGR Class AQ) was a 2-6-0 Mogul-type steam locomotive operated by the Japanese Government Railways from 1897 to 1951. Baldwin’s model number for this locomotive was 8-28-D. The Class 8100 was an early steam locomotive operated in Japan. The type was ordered by the JGR, with a total of twenty locomotives manufactured by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1897. These were classified as the Class AQ locomotives and numbered 272 through 291. These were later reclassified as the Class E7 with their numbers unchanged. The locomotives were reclassified as the Class 8100 in 1909 when a formal rule regarding standardized classification of locomotives was enacted; the locomotives were thus renumbered 8100 through 8119. The locomotives were initially used from Yamakita to Numazu on the Tokaido Line, but all were moved to Hokkaido afterwards. No Class 8100s have been preserved.
