Occasionally, a prototype is so heavily requested that we feel compelled to produce it, at least in part, out of sheer obligation to our faithful customers. The Milwaukee S-3 is one such prototype. Behind only the PRR H10s, the Milwaukee S-3 is our most requested steam locomotive and we are pleased to offer it to our enthusiastic Milwaukee modelers! The S-3 is the culminating iteration of the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroads own 1930 S-1 Northern design. In 1937, Baldwin delivered 30 S-2s into service and in 1940 delivered another 10 S-2 locomotives. Finally, in 1943, 10 S-3 locomotives — road numbers 260 -269 — were delivered to assist in the wartime effort, this time from the ALCO. A slightly leaner version of its elder brother the S-2, the S-3 weighs in at 460,000lbs with a tractive effort of 62,040lbs. Having served only 10 years in its designed capacity, the North Star Rail decided in 1991 to restore the locomotive for mainline excursions. The #261 S-3 is currently owned and maintained by Minneapolis-based Friends of the 261, which runs excursions seasonally. Since completion of its restoration in 1993, #261 has run over 25,000 miles under its own power! BROADWAY LIMITED 3635 N Scale PRR M1a 4-8-2 6766 Paragon3 Sound/DC/DCC. 3635 PRR M1a 4-8-2, #6766, Paragon3 Sound/DC/DCC, N Scale In 1930, the celebrated success of the M1 Mountain-type locomotives prompted the Pennsylvania Railroad to order 100 more locomotives of the 4-8-2 wheel arrangement. The new locomotives became the M1a class and had a longer wheelbase than the M1’s due to the addition of the Worthington feedwater heater. They also received new larger tenders, class 210F75, which became known as the coast-to-coast tenders. The first 50 M1a locomotives, #6700 – 6749, were built by Baldwin. The Juniata Shops, which became knows as the “Altoona Works, ” built the next 25 M1a’s numbered 6750 – 6774, and the remaining 25 M1a’s were built by Lima and were numbered 6775 – 6799. Starting in 1946, 41 of the M1as received further improvements by increasing the boiler pressure and adding circulators to the firebox. The improved M1as became the M1b class. The best way to tell them apart is to look for the circulators on the firebox just above the running boards. The circulators are those round objects in a diagonal line that look like wash-out plugs. The PRR M1a/bs were considered to be the finest of the PRR’s steam locomotives. And in the end, they even hauled the heavy ore trains, which there were not originally intended to pull. This listing is for a Key Imports N-Scale Custom Series #121 Brass Engine; NEW YORK CENTRAL 4-6-4 “Dryfuss Hudson” 1938 version with rd#5449 used for the 20th Century Limited passenger train. This is a gorgeous engine, the detail is fantastic and paintwork excellent. Engine is in excellent condition, nothing broken, no chips or scratches. It has been sitting in it’s box for around twenty years, the wheels are very clean indicating little or no use. When tested it was a little stiff until it ran a few feet then started to loosen up. I applied one drop of lubricant to the exposed gear and ran it a few more feet with much improvement, (should not require any lubricant for a while). Like most older brass engines, the more they are used the better they run. Headlight works fine, box and foam are in excellent condition, very hard piece in this condition to come by!
