In 1919, the American Locomotive Company built forty-five 2-8-8-2 steam locomotives to the specifications of the United States Railway Administration. These locomotives were the biggest that the USRA had ever designed and were destined for the Norfolk & Western Railway. Equipped able to run in LEGACY Control mode, in TrainMaster Command Control mode, or in Conventional mode with a standard transformer. Odyssey II Speed Control. BROADWAY LIMITED 3635 N Scale PRR M1a 4-8-2 6766 Paragon3 Sound/DC/DCC. 3635 PRR M1a 4-8-2, #6766, Paragon3 Sound/DC/DCC, N Scale In 1930, the celebrated success of the M1 Mountain-type locomotives prompted the Pennsylvania Railroad to order 100 more locomotives of the 4-8-2 wheel arrangement. The new locomotives became the M1a class and had a longer wheelbase than the M1’s due to the addition of the Worthington feedwater heater. They also received new larger tenders, class 210F75, which became known as the coast-to-coast tenders. The first 50 M1a locomotives, #6700 – 6749, were built by Baldwin. The Juniata Shops, which became knows as the “Altoona Works, ” built the next 25 M1a’s numbered 6750 – 6774, and the remaining 25 M1a’s were built by Lima and were numbered 6775 – 6799. Starting in 1946, 41 of the M1as received further improvements by increasing the boiler pressure and adding circulators to the firebox. The improved M1as became the M1b class. The best way to tell them apart is to look for the circulators on the firebox just above the running boards. The circulators are those round objects in a diagonal line that look like wash-out plugs. The PRR M1a/bs were considered to be the finest of the PRR’s steam locomotives. And in the end, they even hauled the heavy ore trains, which there were not originally intended to pull. PFM Crown Brass HO Scale- Chesapeake and Ohio Class H-8 Steam Locomotive 2-6-6-6 , New Old Stock. This is a very special Locomotive bought new in’82 Lot’s of detailed pieces. Please look at the photo’s, very impressive. Original Box and Packing, Foam in good shape. These are not toys and most are over 40 years old. Please note that I do not have the ability or inclination to test each and every one of these units. My dad never owned a piece of track and did not get to realize his Great Northern railroad in his retirement so, good or bad, these locomotives are as he bought them all those years ago. Having said that, there may be issues that are well known in the community with deteriorating plastic parts or known mechanical or quality control issues with manufacturers over the years that are well documented on the internet. This is a wonderful hobby and I’ve met many fabulous people so I certainly don’t want any unhappy customers.
