The large drivers gave the locomotive a high top speed; the telling mark of a steam engine built for passenger service. The GS-4 was built for the Southern Pacific Railroad by the Lima Locomotive Works and delivered in the early 1940s for the SPs premier passenger trains, finding its way to the Daylight series of name trains. One of the more unique specifications for the GS-4 by the SP was its Mars light, a necessity with the large amount of grade crossings and fog present on the West Coast. The Mars light, like ditch lights on modern locomotives, was utilized as a warning for grade crossings that a high speed train was approaching, its shifting light patterns serving as an eye catcher in foggy conditions. About the BNSF Black Excursion Version: In 2000, the Daylight was repainted black and silver for a Burlington Northern Santa Fe employee appreciation special. This train excursion went through Seattle, Washington and then east into Montana before heading back to her home in Portland, Oregon. MTH O Scale Santa Fe SF 4-8-4 Northern Steam Engine P2 20-3080-1 With Issues

4-8-4 Northern Steam Engine and Tender. This set is new, but I listed it as used because the sounds are garbled and one large piece of decking is loose and another smaller front piece of decking is missing. The sounds on this set are garbled. I replaced the battery with a new fully charged battery and the sounds are still very low and garbled. When I turn off the power I can hear the sounds for a few more seconds so I know the new battery is fully charged, but there is still an issue. I tested this unit in conventional mode and with my DCS remote and besides the sounds everything else seemed to work fine. The engine went around and was responsive to the remote or power controller. The big issue is the sound. I looked everywhere for it with no luck. I didn’t inspect this unit before purchasing stupid me! And I think I received it like this and didn’t loose the piece. Some Features of this Item. Precision Flywheel Equipped Motor. All Metal Wheels, Gears and Chassis. Operates on O-72 Curves. Proto 2.0 with Digital Command Passenger Station Effects. (see picture of box end for full feature list). Manual Included in Box. If I’m unable to get my asking price I will have this unit serviced and relist. I think this one is worth the investment to fix as this was a very expensive and desirable engine when it was issued. The box has significant creasing in the corners and some shelf wear. N scale Union Pacific FEF-3 series 4-8-4 steam locomotive by Kato. Ready to run on your DC layout and DCC ready for your decoder. Requires 11″ (282mm) minimum turning radius on ground level track and 15″ (381mm) minimum turning radius on Viaduct track. A total of 45 FEF (four-eight-four) locomotives were built between 1937 and 1944, with the last 10 FEF-3s being delivered in 1944. After World War II, coal supplies were affected by a series of strikes. In order to safeguard operations, UP converted the 800s to oil burning, and a 6,000 US gallons tank was fitted in the bunker space. Otherwise, few modifications were needed to insure years of mainline service. These were the last steam locomotives delivered for the Union Pacific. Number 844, the last of the FEF-3 class, is the longest continuously operating 4-8-4 engine in the world, and the only one never retired by a Class I railroad. Like many of the “late era” steam locomotives, their final design was cut short by the advent of new monarchs of the rails, diesels. Today, FEF-3 #844 (at some times during history also known as #8444 to avoid numbering conflictions with a diesel loco) survives to pull excursion trains as a publicity locomotive for the Union Pacific, and is one the UP’s oldest operating locmotives. Accompanying the “living legend” FEF-3 is always at least one of a pair of Union Pacific Water Tenders, carrying spare water for the steam engine (Water filling stations being a rarity in the diesel era). These unique re-built cars have seen service as both Steam and Gas Turbine Electric fuel tenders before finally settling into their current forms as part of UP’s steam heritage fleet where they operate as separate (but always-present) cars. MTH Burlington Northern Santa Fe. 4-8-4 Gs-4 Steam Engine and Tender. This is a massive engine. This engine has a two front lights, one that works with constant voltage and one the is a MARS (blinks) light. I don’t know that I have ever seen that feature on any other steam engine. Very neat looking on this massive engine. This engine just looks right to me. This set is new. I programmed it into my remote and did a quick spin and it worked great. The system information states this engine has 0.0 scale miles on the odometer (I can supply a picture if interested) and the battery is low. The sounds are a little garbled on this set. As with every MTH engine, the battery needs to be fully charged for the engine to perform at it’s best. This is common for these older MTH engines when the battery levels are not maintained. This is an awesome looking, huge set. Some Features of this Item. Precision Flywheel Equipped Motor. All Metal Wheels, Gears and Chassis. Operates on O-54 Curves. Proto 2.0 with Digital Command and Passenger Yard Effects. (see picture of box end for full feature list). Manual Included in Box. The box has some shelf wear with frayed and torn end flaps.
