NYC & StL 2-8-4 Berkshire Steam Engine and Tender. I have to be honest. I love the looks of this engine, but not sure why it’s called Golden Spike? I thought that was reserved for the first 4-4-0 that made it’s way across the United States. This is a large set. It is new, but was displayed behind glass for most of it’s life. I cleaned the set the best I could, but did notice in the pictures that it’s still a little dusty in the cab and front detail areas. I programmed this engine into my remote and did a quick spin and it worked great. The system information states this engine has. 5 scale miles on the odometer (I can supply a picture if interested). I wrote in my notes that this one had awesome big sound. Some Features of this Item. Precision Flywheel Equipped Motors. All Metal Wheels, Gears and Chassis. Operates on O-54 Curves. Lionel Baltimore and Ohio. EM-1 2-8-8-4 Steam Engine and Tender. This set will not go. When I tested it the motor made a humming noise, but the set would not move. The more power I gave it the louder it hummed. I only tried a few times as I didn’t want to damage the engine. This set is used and shows some wheel and pick-up wear. It primarily lived behind glass in a large collection and was not used. The oil may have gummed up and needs cleaning from not being used. This set was issued with the following features. H igh Torque Pittman Motor. Manual Included in Box. The box has some shelf wear and creasing in the corners. Let me know if you have any questions. MTH Chesapeake and Ohio. 2-6-6-6 Allegheny Steam Engine and Tender. This is one of my favorite looking engines. Right up there with the 4-4-0 General. This set is new, but please note it has a loose piece of decking and the bell is loose. One piece of decking is loose (sorry, but I didn’t write in my notes which piece), but I placed it on the train prior to picturing. The bell is also loose. It clicks into place, then when I moved the train to picture it came off. I have lost these in the past so I secured this one in the box to make sure I would not loose it and pictured the train without the bell. It’s in the box in tissue paper. I programmed this monster into my remote and did a quick spin and it worked great and sounded even better. The system information states this engine has. 1 scale miles on the odometer (I can supply a picture if interested). This is an awesome looking, huge set and one of my favorites. ART-21501 Baltimore & Ohio 2-8-2 Mikado Steam Locomotive #4619 & Vanderbilt Tender. This is an excellent condition steam locomotive and tender. They only thing to note is there are some rub marks from the styrofoam packaging. In 2006 it was installed with a Sierra digital sound system. It was briefly run, than stored away. When I tested the sound unit, the sound was erratic and needed high voltage before it came on. I plugged the external overnight battery charger and it had the same result in the morning. Per the troubleshooting guide, it appears that the battery has fully drained and failed. Hopefully with a new battery installed, the sound should work as expected. The locomotive otherwise tested perfectly with all the lights working too. Included are extra couplers, side pipes, whistle, instructions and explosion diagrams. MTH Union Pacific 9000. 4-12-2 Steam Engine and Tender. This is a big, great looking set but I believe there is an issue with the clip that attaches the tender to the engine. The volume on the set is very low and when I go to adjust the volume on the tender it doesn’t change. Also, the smoke system isn’t active and when I go to increase the flow on the tender there is no change. I had issues with this particular MTH clip on two other engines. I tried to contact MTH with no luck. I wanted to get specifics on what a replacement clip would cost and if it needs to be soldered or if I would be able to replace myself. I decided to sell as-is with the understanding that it has the issues highlighted above, plus a small nick on the tender top corner and one set of loose stars on the tender (please read below). I was able to program this set into my remote and it went great. I was able to go through the various other functions and they all seemed to worked fine, just very low volume and no smoke. When I initially stared testing this unit it had 40.1 scale miles. I started it up and ran it a few times while waiting to get someone at MTH, so the set may have approximately 50 – 60 scale miles. Also, I wanted to note that the tender stairs came off when I was placing it back in the box. The stairs are pictured as attached, but they have come loose and I included them in the box. I’m sorry, but I didn’t note if it was the front tender stairs or rear, I think it was the front, but not sure and don’t want to take the set out again and risk additional damage. I cleaned this set the best I could, but it’s still a little dusty in the hard to reach areas. I know this set wasn’t used much and was displayed for a short period of time. Beautiful engine priced right for some who can fix the tether clip if that is the issues – not sure, but think it is! The following are some of the great features of this set.
