Now, over half a century later, an updated version of this classic locomotive speeds down the American Flyer mainline. Using many of the original tooling dies, the 4-8-4 Northern is constructed almost entirely of die-cast metal. This new reissue also includes the RailSounds sound system complete with whistle, bell and synchronized chuffing features. For operators who prefer a more traditional effect, the RailSounds sound system can be shut off revealing the rhythmic Choo-Choo sound of the mechanical puffing smoke unit. Features include operating couplers, classic A. Gilbert reissues, all-new innovative designs, transformer controlled forward, neutral and reverse operation, railSounds sound system with steam sounds, synchronized chuffing, crew announcement, brake squeal, whistle and bell, a powerful maintenance-free motor with momentum flywheel, an operating headlight, die-cast metal locomotive body, frame, pilot and trucks, traction tires, puffing smoke unit with Choo-Choo sound, die-cast metal tender body and frame and trucks.
