MTH 4-6-6-4 Challenger Steam Engine Set. This listing is for a new in box 4-6-6-4 Challenger steam engine locomotive set for the Union Pacific line, painted in two tone gray with silver stripes, made by MTH in O Scale! This set is an engine & tender combo, operating on 3-rail track, with hi-rail wheels (convertible). The engine is numbered 3984. Less than a decade later they were considered slow and difficult to maintain, so American Locomotive Works (ALCO) was commissioned to build what became one of the most successful fleets of articulated engines on any railroad. Forty Challengers were built in the 1930s. The pressure of wartime traffic brought an order for 65 more with bigger tenders and many minor improvements. The Challengers were steam power at its zenith! They incorporated all the technology that represented super-power steam, including roller bearings on all axles and drive rods – but none of the foolishness that characterized some of the desperate efforts to save steam in the post-war years. 1930s Prewar Lionel O Scale Copper Adorned Beauty Steam Engine / Locomotive #262E W/ FLAGS. The little white flags are metal and are original, and look awesome if you ask me. This Engine was tested and does run fairly good, (has not been “run” in about 25 years). In my opinion it needs a typical greasing, cleaning and general maintenance and this engine should run very nice. With a little TLC maintenance this will be a pride and joy runner. Description: This is a very Nice & Detailed HO Locomotive w/ Tender made by AHM. Condition: This one has been used, ran but I test it and it runs great on both directions and it lights up nicely, so in conclusion, the locomotive works without a problem. Cosmetically speaking, I will say it is in for the most part in pristine shape, there is nothing broken or missing so there is honestly absolutely nothing wrong for me to mention about the loco or the tender, now the only thing I may have to mention is that I notice scratches here and there on both but considering the fact that this one has been previously own the scratches are not bad at all so I can tell you for a fact that you wont’ be dissapointed at this tarin. Lastly, this one comes with instructions and it is in the original box and the box is in fair shape but there is still some damaged on the box & it is missing the ends and it shows stains (so see the pictures) & the insert box has stains as well.
