This model was made between 56′-59′ and has lathe turned details, some early castings, and open motor and gearbox. Tested and runs pretty well, could use additional lubrication and cleaning. Model has tarnish consistent with its age. Overall a very nice pre-1960 brass locomotive and tender. Lots of original foam has lost its memory or is deteriorating and will not serve its intended purpose. I replace or remove inferior foam, use additional padding, water proof, and wrap with plenty of bubble wrap and air pillows as needed. I use oversized boxes with all seams taped ensuring that you don’t receive a box of “parts”. I pay special attention to my brass items, as many have been cherished for decades, were handmade, and deserve to remain a part of modeling history. Thanks for looking at Cherry Picked Trains! A couple of notes. I take packing seriously! I use bubble wrap, plenty of packing material, and sturdy boxes. Loose cars will be wrapped in tissue paper, then bubble wrap. United Brass/PFM HO Scale Sierra RR 2-6-6-2 Mallet Steam Loco & Tender. Very nice articulated brass Mallet for the Sierra. Has very little if any runtime. Bench tested and serviced lubricated. Found to run very well. Articulation is free and solid. All details appear attached and solid. Item does have quite a bit of patina. Earlier brass not clear coated. This is fairly common on United Brass. Has very nice piping and other detail. Is solid mesh gearing for transfer to common dual gear drives. IMO as far as drive gear noise level I’d say about 6 out of 10. Original solid box has replacement foam. United Scale Models Santa Fe. 4-8-4 Steam Engine and Tender. This United Scale Model was factory new when I received it. I unwrapped and tested this unit and as I expected the unit didn’t run. It has been sitting for decades in the box and has some tarnishing and the oil may have gummed up. Unit will need cleaning and possibly a new rubber drive shaft. When I tested the set I could hear the motor spin, but the unit didn’t move. Very large, nice looking tarnished engine. Please review the pictures. Let me know if you have any questions. The locomotive is operational we did not test the smoke function. The only damage we could find was on the coal car the rear ladder appears to be missing one side of the upper loop clearly shown in photo’s. The entire thing is brass and it is again all there. The original box and packaging is in very good condition with no rips or tears in the box, and only few minor scuffs here and there. It reads “Rio Grande HOn3 2-8-0 K-27″. As for condition again we are not experts and we have done our best to provide photo’s of the item for you to make your decision. United Scale B&O Power 2-8-0 Locomotive & Tender NIB. Please note that one of the Domes have become unattached from the boiler as shown in the photo’s. Please look it over carefully. It looks as though it was just a poor solder job from the factory. There is no other damage that I can see and the Dome is not deformed in any way. Original Box and Packing, some foam starting to show age. Items will be wrapped in bubble wrap to protect them as needed from deteriorating foam. These are not toys and most are over 40 years old. Please note that I do not have the ability or inclination to test each and every one of these units. My dad never owned a piece of track and did not get to realize his Great Northern railroad in his retirement so, good or bad, these locomotives are as he bought them all those years ago. Having said that, there may be issues that are well known in the community with deteriorating plastic parts or known mechanical or quality control issues with manufacturers over the years that are well documented on the internet. This is a wonderful hobby and I’ve met many fabulous people so I certainly don’t want any unhappy customers.
