HO Scale Akane 2-6-6-6 Chesapeake Ohio H8 Allegheny

HO gauge H-8 coal monster for C&O. One of the most powerful locomotives ever built hauling coal through the gradients of mountains that gave them their class names of Allegheny and the cousin of the H-8 the Virginian Blue Ridge. 1601 is still on display at Michigan and another at Roanoke. No wonder – such beasts that fought against the turn of diesel power. This is an early model from Japanese maker Akane it’s been painted and whilst not as detailed as my other H8 up for sale it’s way better than my O scale model that is also on my roster of things to repair one day. Have you tried to solder o scale with cheap irons – don’t! This one needs the frame motor repositioned in the cab as it’s loose and thus the traction through the rubber tube to the driving wheels isn’t getting the power. I haven’t checked under the cab but these models are not rocket science. One or two nicks and dints in the paint – also a small piece of coal from the tender load missing. Nothing I don’t think that should put anyone offs original box. I love the story (fact) about how Lima (the folks that built these) were sued by staff working for C&O because they were paid in part by the weight of the locomotive they had to operate. The locomotive looks as it did starting in 2016. Model : The locomotive has an mfx+ digital decoder and extensive sound functions. It also has various operating sounds such as oil and water being replenished or the opening and closing of sliding windows and ventilation hatches on the cab, all of which can be controlled digitally. The locomotive has controlled high-efficiency propulsion with a flywheel, mounted in the boiler. The locomotive has Boxpok driving wheels. Maintenance-free warm white LEDs are used for the headlight on the locomotive and tender, cab lighting as well as number boards and marker lights, all of which can be controlled digitally. There is a factory-installed smoke generator with dynamic smoke exhaust. The headlights and smoke unit contact will work in conventional operation and can be controlled digitally. There are two powerful speakers in the tender. Imitation couplers in a standard pocket can be mounted on the pilot on the front of the locomotive. There is a close coupling with a mechanism between the locomotive and tender. The locomotive has separately applied metal grab irons. There are many other separately applied details.
