The locomotive features unpainted brass construction, metal siderods, metal wheels, and… This item has been graded per TCA standards C-7: Excellent. Several trim parts near the cowcoatcher on the locomotive have slightly tarnished. The shaft coupling between the gearbox and motor has been changed. Part of the valve gear was soldered into position. This unit bench tested good. The original box is included, along with the foam liner. The liner is in great shape. Overall condition is Excellent. The three-cylinder 4-12-2 design used a pair of conventional cylinders that powered the third driving axle while an additional cylinder, mounted in the locomotive frame, drove the second axle. True to the prototype, the Lionel 4-12-2 includes detailed Gresley valve gear in front of the third cylinder and an operational, reciprocating third drive rod in the locomotive frame. Almost 90 locomotives of this type were built by ALCo by 1930. Of these enormous locomotives, the #9000 is preserved in Pomona, California. Equipped able to run in LEGACY Control mode, in TrainMaster Command Control mode, or in Conventional mode with a standard transformer. Odyssey II Speed Control. 2019S Colorado & Southern Steam Mogul Locomotive & Tender. This is a good condition steam locomotive! I have tested it and it runs great, but there is an issue with the sound. When I initially ran it, the sound worked. After a few minutes the sound stopped. When placing the sound trigger magnet down, only the whistle worked although it sounded a bit distorted. The bell did not sound. Now when running it, it only does the short whistle sound when it starts from a stop. The smoke unit and all the lights work. It is a little dusty in the nooks and crannies. It comes in its original box & packaging with two sound trigger magnets. Made in Western Germany!
