Learn more about us. Dapol 2S-016-007 Pre-Owned 2S-016-007 M7 0-4-4 Southern Black 246 – Steam Tank Locomotive. Pre-Owned Item, in as new condition. This model is not currently suitable for our DCC decoder fitting service. The LSWR M7 Class is a class of 0-4-4 passenger tank locomotive built between 1897 and 1911. Drummond designed the class for use on the intensive London network of the London & South Western Railway (LSWR). The locomotive proved to be well suited to such tasks. Because of their usefulness, 105 were built, 95 being built at Nine Elms Works with the remaining ten built at Eastleigh Works. The class went through several modifications over five production batches. For this reason, there were detail variations such as frame length. Under LSWR and Southern Railway ownership they had been successful suburban passenger engines, although with the increased availability of newer standard designs, many of the class were diagrammed to take on a new role as reliable branch line engines, especially in Southern England. Many of the class also entered service with British Railways. With members of the class lasting in service until 1964, two examples have survived into preservation: number 245, in the National Railway Museum, and 53 (as BR 30053) on the Swanage Railway. The rest of the class were scrapped. One locomotive was withdrawn in 1937, one in 1938 and the remainder being withdrawn between 1957 and 1965 FEATURES. Highly detailed body with many separately added parts. Keyed axles (similar to the Dapol N Gauge A4/A3) to prevent quartering slippage. Improved power path from rear pony wipers improved with contact plates. 48g in weight giving this little locomotive a very impressive haulage capacity. The model is DCC’friendly’. It is a simple matter to replace this PCB with a wired’micro’ decoder by making 4 solder connections. DC only users do not need to make any changes. 3 pole can motor providing smooth slow speed running and a realistic top speed. TRACK SUPPLY 12v DC. Rails moved to another shop on Chesterfield Road and established the first part of its permanent base. In 1996, the neighbouring shop unit was acquired and a period of rapid expansion followed. Rails then launched its first website and was pioneering online model railway retail for both new and second hand items. The late-1990s also saw the growth of the’limited edition’ business – with many exclusive liveries commissioned from major manufacturers. Rapid Expansion – 2000. To feed this expanding business, the Barber family scoured the country (and sometimes further afield) acquiring model railway collections. A New Era – 2010. Sadly, Hedley Barber passed away on August 11th 2015, leaving his son John and grandsons Adam and Oliver and John’s wife Tracy to manage the company he founded, with support of other family members and long serving staff. Remaining a family operated business, Rails continued to thrive in the late 2010s. A major milestone was the opening of the impressive show room in 2018, which features beautiful displays of popular locomotives and rolling stock frames amongst real Sheffield steel, stone walling and natural material. This was the catalyst for the refurbishment of the entire’front of house’ shop now occupying five formerly separate units. Rails also branched out into the new areas such as commissioning its own exclusive model product under the new’Rails Limited’ brand, bringing new model to the public such as the Stroudley’Terrier’ steam locomotive with Dapol and North Eastern Railway Electric Autocrat with Heljan. In 2021, Rails opened it all new purpose-built warehouse and offices in Dronfield. The multi-million pound development enable Rails to move all warehousing and administration to this new site to streamline the business and continue to provide customers with the top-tier service they had become accustomed to. In January 2024, Rails acquired Hatton’s Model Railways following its unfortunate closure after many years. Committed to preserving the Hatton’s legacy, Rails is integrating customers with the beloved Hatton’s Directory & product database.
