The large drivers gave the locomotive a high top speed; the telling mark of a steam engine built for passenger service. The GS-4 was built for the Southern Pacific Railroad by the Lima Locomotive Works and delivered in the early 1940s for the SPs premier passenger trains, finding its way to the Daylight series of name trains. One of the more unique specifications for the GS-4 by the SP was its Mars light, a necessity with the large amount of grade crossings and fog present on the West Coast. The Mars light, like ditch lights on modern locomotives, was utilized as a warning for grade crossings that a high speed train was approaching, its shifting light patterns serving as an eye catcher in foggy conditions. About the BNSF Black Excursion Version: In 2000, the Daylight was repainted black and silver for a Burlington Northern Santa Fe employee appreciation special. This train excursion went through Seattle, Washington and then east into Montana before heading back to her home in Portland, Oregon. Accucraft’s newest freelance British style saddle tank engine in 1:19 scale. Butane fired live steam. The locomotive is internally gas fired with a centre flue boiler. The model is gauge adjustable from 32mm (O gauge) to 45mm (1 gauge) and has insulated wheels as standard. The axles run in bronze bearings and all the rods and valve gear are manufactured from stainless steel. The cab roof flips up and over sideways to give access to the gas, water and lubricator fillers. The boiler is fitted with a water level check valve and the displacement lubricator has an under-floor drain valve. The model is built from stainless steel and brass. 1:19 Scale / 45 mm Gauge. Brass & Stainless Steel Construction. Simplified Walschaerts valve gear. 60 psi working pressure. 10.5 diecast 2-6-2 loco, made 1939 to 41 is black version with chrome-nickel trim. Original finish has light edge wear, mainly 1 sideboard, otherwise is clean, mostly original. I suspect boiler front is a replacement, as it looks great, but is too perfect, including all 4 green jewels. All Items, including N. This year sees the 150th anniversary since the Pacific Railroad was finished, which linked the existing eastern US network with the Pacific coast at Omaha, Nebraska. The 1,912 miles of continuous railway line was built between 1863 and 1869. 2019 also marks 60 years since the “Big Boy” locomotives first started being removed from the US network with Union Pacific restoring the 4014 to coincide with this anniversary. Called “Big Boy” as of all the articulated engines, this 4-8-8-4 was the biggest in terms of size, weight and speed. The name originates from a message written in chalk on the door of the smoke box by a worker on the prototype project. “Big Boy” can reach speeds of 80 miles per hour, with over 7000 hp. With a confounding length of 475mm (almost 19 inches), a 5-pole motor and brass flywheel, a DCC Ready 21-pin plug, handrails made from steel wire and much more, this locomotive is unlike any other and undeniably lines alongside other models as a classic.
