STANDARD HO SCALE MAX GRAY K. BRASS RIO GRANDE TWO RAIL 4-6-6-4 D&RGW CHALLENGER TYPE STEAM LOCOMOTIVE AND 12-WHEEL TENDER. THE RIO GRANDE CHALLENGER WAS THE LARGEST AND MOST POWERFUL OF ALL AND PROVIDED 20 YEARS OF SERVICE. 10 CHALLENGER’S THAT WERE DELIVERED POPULATED THE ROSTER FROM 3700 – 3709 DURING 1937 – 1938 WITH AN ADDITIONAL OF 5 BEING DELIVERED IN 1942. THIS LOCOMOTIVE WILL NEED SOME WORK TO RUN PROPERLY AS IT DID WOBBLE IN FORWARD WHEN TESTED, THE MOTOR SEEMS TO BE GOOD. THE ORIGINAL BOX WILL SHOW SOME WEAR, BUT IS IN GOOD CONDITION, THERE ARE NO FOAM INSERTS. THE BOILER COVER IS ENCLOSED. THE BOILER WEIGHT IS ALREADY INSTALLED. Up for sale is a. Max Gray Brass 4-6-4 NYC J3a Dreyfuss Hudson Steam Engine O-Scale 2-Rail – TESTED – w/BOX. RARE, used, in decent overall condition. Brass has tarnish in many places, but overall good shape for the age. There may be some missing details or imperfections. Nothing that stands out besides the tarnish. The engine has been tested, serviced, and runs. Lights do not appear to work. Brake shoes are not factory insulated and can short the wheels out if they are not perfectly centered between wheels. New owner might consider insulating the brake shoes at some point. Wheels show minor wear. Both engine and tender are well secured in factory original box. Box has some major wear and handwriting on it. Extra protective cushion may be added inside the foam insert to keep the item from shifting around.
