This item was acquired from a MTH warehouse cleanup in Cumberland, MD. This one of a kind piece was part of the production and test sample department. S Scale Brass Sunset Models Union Pacific 4-6-6-4 Challenger Nice In Box Up Rare

Nice condition with box. Only made one year, one run, 1987 by Dong Jin. The only modern brass S scale UP Challenger made! Small detail parts were snagged by the foam over the years & came off the model as the photos show. They’ll be included in a parts bag. Other than that the overall condition is nice. There are a couple areas of minor tarnish as well. Also there is a small dent on the boiler as the picture shows. I didnt test it but the model has lived its whole life in the box and original foam its very nice condition save for the minor condition issues it has. I dont think any parts are missing. Just the previous owner had it in the foam without using the plastic and the sticky out parts of the model got snagged on the foam. When taking the model in and out of the foam over the decades. Im thinking it will run just fine based on the condition. If you look at the pictures of the bottom of the engine and tender they look like maybe never ran. Might just need woken up and a touch of oil. The top foam pieces are included, just not shown in pictures. Up for sale is a. Williams Crown Edition No. 8000 (Samhongsa) Brass 4-6-6-4 UP/Union Pacific Challenger Articulated Steam Engine O-Scale 2-Rail LN. RARE, used, Like-New, nicely done and heavy piece by Samhongsa in Korea for Williams. THIS IS THE SUPER RARE 2-RAIL VERSION – not to be confused with the more common 3-Rail Versions. There may be a few minor scratches, and missing details or imperfections. Nothing that stands out. Very clean overall for this piece! There is one brake shoe that came off but can be re-attached. It is included in the box if you choose to re-attach it. The engine has been tested, serviced, and works as it should. There is no smoke – by design. This is 2-Rail DC powered only. Wheels show minor wear. There are some scratches on the underside of the frame. Both engine and tender are well secured in factory original box. Box has some damage. Extra protective cushion may be added inside the foam insert to keep the item from shifting around. Please look at the pictures to see exactly what you will receive. NIB Rivarossi 1597 Clinchfield 4-6-6-4 Challenger Steam Locomotive #670 HO Scale. The name Challenger was given to steam locomotives with a 4-6-6 -4 wheel arrangement: or wheels in the leading pilot truck to guide the locomotive it to curves, two sets of 6 driving wheels, and for trailing wheels to support the rear of the engine and its massive fire box. Each set of driving wheels is driven by to steam cylinders. In essence, the result is two engines under one boiler. Union Pacific developed five types of challengers: the light CSA – 1 and CSA – 2 classes and the heavy for 664 – 3, 46644, and 46645 classes. The railroad stop powerful locomotive that can handle Mountain grades at high speeds. Previous articulated locomotive have been limited to slow speeds by their design. Technical breakthroughs allowed the u p challengers to operate with 280 lbf/in of boiler pressure, something usually reserved for passenger locomotives like the fef series. Speeds in excess of 60 miles per hour, while unheard-of on other railroads using articulated steam locomotives, became commonplace on the UP. This Rivarossi model reproduces the prototype 1597 clinchfield number 670 manufactured in 1995. Although this model is brand new and has never seen a track it will need tuned up and oiled to properly operate. This stunning reproduction of the 4-6-6-4 Challenger is the result of a focused determination to accomplish one thing: create the finest operating miniature representation of the prototype available. To say Athearn has succeeded would be an understatement. Giving life to all the details are authentic sounds that are channeled through a factory installed DCC and soundboard with speakers. The DCC decoder automatically senses what type of power supply is in use (conventional DC or NMRA compliant DCC) and adapts its functions. The modeler doesn’t have to do a thing. The rear coupling is compatible with micro train and others with this style of knuckle coupling. The model is unmarked in its original packing and has only been on a track for no greater than 5 minutes to check. I have rechecked again before sale and it works perfectly, it will probably benefit from running in as this model is as new.
