This is a brand new. HO Scale 4-6-6-4 Challenger Steam Locomotive with Factory-Installed DCC & Tsunami Sound in the Rio Grande paint scheme. The locomotive number is 3805 (Item #G97230). This stunning reproduction of the 4-6-6-4 Challenger is the result of a focused determination to accomplish one thing: create the finest operating miniature representation of the prototype available. To say Athearn has succeeded would be an understatement. Giving life to all the details are authentic sounds that are channeled through a factory installed DCC and soundboard with speakers. The DCC decoder automatically senses what type of power supply is in use (conventional DC or NMRA compliant DCC) and adapts its functions. The modeler doesn’t have to do a thing. The Genesis 4-6-6-4 Challenger includes a history book and instruction book for quick reference. Boiler backhead with printed manual controls. Individually applied piping, valves, generators, etc. Correctly operating eccentric cranks. Headlights and number boards with directional light change. This one owner engine was in a display case its whole life, I do not think it was run much if at all. It does not have the original box. Please note: This is an old engine, it sat on a shelf or in a box for a long time. While we bench tested it we strongly recommend you do a complete cleaning/lube job on it before you put it in service. We recommend this for any old train before using it, they will last forever but they need a little maintenance once in a while. Please see pictures for details on the condition of the items. This would be graded EXCELLENT if not for a few minor issues. The locomotive is missing the drawbar pin. The headlight lens is cracked. There is a nick in the boiler by the whistle. There are a few nicks on the loco. The tender wires have been soldered. One wire is bare. The overall appearance of this item may be improved with a gentle and thorough cleaning. This is a Legendary Lionel 763E Semi-Scale Hudson Steam Locomotive with Tender from 1937-42. This is the Semi-Scale Version of the famous 700E Scale Hudson. It differs from the 700e in having wheel flanges which work on regular Lionel tubular track, fewer piping and accessory details on the engine, and a smaller tender. Despite the reduction in attachments from the 700E, the engine features an enormous amount of detail. The tender has a whistle, and the locomotive has the 3-position e-unit. It will only run on curves 72 inch diameter or larger. The 763 ranks just behind the 700E on many collector’s wish lists.
