Made by Ernst Paul Lehmann Patentwerk in Nuremberg, Germany, since 1968 and by Marklin since 2007, it is the most popular garden railway model in Europe, although there are also many models of U. LGB caused a revival of garden model railroading in the United States when it was introduced. Walthers, who took over from Ernst Paul Lehmann’s subsidiary, LGB of America, when Märklin bought the LGB assets. Most of the European prototypes were manufactured in Germany, while much of the North American rolling stock was made in China. Production is now located in Hungary. LGB trains are responsible for introducing “G” scale to model railroading. The scale ratio used by LGB is nominally 1:22.5, yet many dimensions are often changed to allow operation on very tight R1 curves. American prototypes especially suffer from this. Other G-scale (and Gauge 1) manufacturers produce products that range from 1:20 to 1:32, and for the most part, all use the same track and are compatible with one another. Though they can all run on the same track (45 mm gauge), models representing narrow-gauge versions of trains or locomotives would not normally be run together with models of larger full-scale vehicles. To fit the same standard track the latter must be built using different scales. To illustrate the point, 1:22.5 scale passengers and/or train crew are somewhat over-sized when displayed in proximity with 1:32 models. Though the models may be physically compatible, many people choose a style or era to fit their desires and pick one ratio (in the range of 1:20.3 to 1:32) to model all of their trains. Accucraft Caradoc Live Steam Locomotive 2.4GHz RC SM32 Garden Railway 16mm Scale
Accucraft Caradoc live steam locomotive with 2.4GHz radio control and Summerlands Chuffer in excellent little used condition. Finished in GWR green with. Water top up valve, copper chimney cap, opening smokebox door and tool box. Really nicely proportioned loco with radio control professionally fitted to the reverser. Steams and runs well. This is the later version with smoke box rivet detail. Very few signs of use – just the odd small mark and a tiny dint in the brass dome that is barely noticeable. The tool box is secured using a small dab of silicone so it can be removed or re-located easily. Sale includes RC transmitter, instructions and water top up bottle but no paperwork or box. From the Accucraft website: Caradoc is a freelance side tank locomotive with design inspirations from Hunslet. The loco is internally gas fired with a centre flue boiler. The model is built from stainless steel and brass and is gauge adjustable from 32mm to 45mm gauge and has insulated wheels as standard. The axles run in bronze bearings and all the rods and valve gear are manufactured from stainless steel. The cab roof slides backs to give access to the gas, water and lubricator fillers. The boiler is fitted with a water level check valve and the displacement lubricator has an under floor drain valve. Scale: 16mm to 1 foot (1:19). Length: 262mm (10 ¼ ins). Gauge: 32mm or 45mm.
